When Bluey first appeared on Disney Plus in 2020, our family were all instant fans. I remember arriving home from work, where my dad was hanging out with my three kids, I don’t think he even said hello but went straight into, “There’s a new show about cartoon dogs, and you have to watch it, because the parents are you and Ben, and well, you just have to watch it because it’s you guys.” The kids were won over by so many things, the story, the artwork, and the music; my husband and I were won over by the thoroughly realistic depictions of marriage, parenthood, and the crazy, wonderful, stressful beauty of raising kids together.
We have the DVDs for the car, we have the stuffed animals, we have the toys, we’ve had the cups and the crafts. We have many of the books. Now, we can have the books read to us by some of our favorite people.
In Bluey Book Reads, available on the Bluey website and on the YouTube channel, we have a new way to experience our favorite Bluey stories. Using a combination of visuals from the books, and off-screen narration from an amazing array of global stars, the stories come to life from the page in a brand new way.
The first season of Bluey Book Reads will feature 10 episodes, of which the first two are currently available. The first episode Mini Bluey is read by my childhood heroine Kylie Minogue, and her equally amazing sister Dannii. With Kylie reading as Bluey and Dannii as Bingo, this dual read opener is absolutely fantastic.
“Bluey is an Aussie icon so when I was asked if I’d like to read Mini Bluey with my sister, it was an easy YES! This episode, Mini Bluey was perfect for us for obvious reasons: big sister and little sister!
It reminded me so much of being kids growing up in Australia. It’s a funny, sweet and heart-warming tale of being yourself and encouraging others to do the same. I hope people have as much fun watching as Dannii and I had making this beautiful episode of Bluey Book Reads.” —Kylie Minogue
The second episode is read by another Australian icon, Bindi Irwin. Where Danii and Kylie read a story about two Australian sisters, Bindi reads a story about discovering the wild on your doorstep. Bindi is the daughter of the late Steve Irwin, an Australian zookeeper and conservationist, and she has followed in his very adventurous footsteps.
Two episodes of will be released each month, so now that it’s March, we have another two to look forward to!
